* Resveratrol (3,5,4'-trihydroxy-trans-stilbene) is a stilbenoid, a type of natural phenol, and a
phytoalexin produced naturally by several plants in response to injury or when the plant is under attack
by pathogens such as bacteria or fungi.
* Food sources of resveratrol include the skin of grapes, mulberries and polygonum cuspidatum.
* The strongest evidence of anticancer action of resveratrol exists for tumors it can contact directly,
such as skin and gastrointestinal tract tumors.
* The cardioprotective effects of resveratrol also are theorized to be a form of preconditioning-the best method of cardioprotection.
* The photoprotective effects of several polyphenols known for their antioxidant properties, including
resveratrol, have been investigated in silico and in topical application conditions.
* In a number of animal models resveratrol has had an antidepressant-like effect.
